Big News - and a HUGE to-do list

I got the call this morning. I have been offered a job in Missouri.

I have conditionally accepted, pending my review of their benefits package, etc.

I have that information in hand, and tomorrow I'll go through it with MrsZ... but it looks good.

Real good.

It's quite likely that I will be living in Missouri within 30 days.

I am slightly freaked out by this idea, but mostly excited... and I have a lot of you to thank for it.

The support, both moral and on my multiple trips west, has been incredible. I got to meet a few more bloggers, not stay in impersonal hotels, and relax with My Tribe.

Now ... the hard part: divesting ourselves of four years of house accumulation, packing up, selling the house, and getting out.

Holy crap.

CONGRATS! Really, Congrats to you and the Mrs!

When packing books, only fill the box 1/3 to 1/2 full. Put something light on top of that. Your back will thank you. And mark the contents on at least two surfaces, so no matter how it's stacked, you have a chance of figuring it out.

This is also a great time to start eating down the cupboards and freezer, so you don't end up with a lot of food to deal with right as you're trying to load your still-defrosting freezer. (Ok, that move was only from one apartment to another, but they owed us good pizza and non-draft beer after that move!

Most of all, just like having a bug-out plan and a in-case-of-house-fire plan, having a moving timetable worked out in advance really helps with the overwhelmingness of it all.

But if it all comes down to throwing things in the back of the car at the end - well, welcome to the human race. If you manage not to, I want to learn how! :-P

Hey, have some fun in there, too, eh? And again, congratulations on your Escape From New York.

Congrats!

Best tool I ever had for moving was a dumpster. Makes unpacking at the new place lots easier too.

And welcome to America.

So YOU'RE picking ME up for the next N.E. Blogshoot, eh?

Just pulling your leg, Z. You probably can't get that much time off being the New Guy anyway.

And the way the NorthEast VolksRepubliks are building their Iron Curtains, I'm afraid to get in a Car Accident up there while Transporting Fun Gear to New Hampshire.

But do plan on hitting the NRA Con in Indy next year.

And if you need help, let me know.

Here's a thanks from Mrs Z, ladies and gentlemen. I don't think Zercool would have survived all of those trips without the generous openings of doors that happened.

Yes, a dumpster is looking more and more appealing.

I've moved enough times that 2+ labels and heavy mixed with light are necessities. The poor men who tried to move my "medium" box packed full of books taught me the weight lesson when I was 12. It's a good thing my hobby items tend to be bulky but light while Z's are small but HEAVY. I think we'll still need smaller boxes, though.

The hound has a fancy new travel harness so she can ride in the passenger seat. Now to acquire another cat carrier and get all of their travel papers arranged for. Goat's meeting a new vet on Monday!

And yes, the freezer dilemma occurred to me yesterday. And I thought canned goods would pose a problem!

Congratulations! I have relatives in the Show Me state and I like it there. I think you will too.

What part of the state will you be relocating to?

John: We're headed to the western end of MO, out towards KC.
