Fair seas and following winds...

The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) is being decommissioned.

The world's first nuclear aircraft carrier is being shut down.

Then again, there are plenty of letters left in the alphabet. (I'd give you a video clip, but Paramount is a beast about copyright.)

I fully expect that CVN79 or CVN80 will likely be designated "Enterprise".

-79 is already designated the JFK, so it'll have to be -80. :)

(And I think I got that quote in the title wrong... is it fair winds and following seas, or vice-versa? Either way, sentiment holds.)

Ah, I forgot that the Martyr Kennedy must be worshipped.

(Insert poignant comment about horses, bayonets, and 'these things they call Aircraft Carriers' here)

Dunno if you've met my friend Jack Eaton, a southeastern Fleeter, on one of his CNY visits. His son John, who I briefly met as a teenager and then saw again a year or so ago when he was at Shore Leave on shore leave, just got home from the Big E's final deployment. Can you imagine serving on that last voyage?

MHA - I wonder just how many "souvenirs" disappeared during the last cruise...
